Digital night observation, handheld or head-mounted
The NV8160 combines a viewing screen, adjustable infrared illumination and a compact housing. Hold it for a quick look or attach it to the supplied headband for stationary hands-free observation. The focus ring helps adjust the image for your viewing distance. This is digital infrared night vision, not thermal imaging.
Infrared brightness, focus and image effects
Switch infrared illumination on in darkness and choose from seven brightness levels. The supplier shows colour, black and white, green and an infrared-style colour effect. IR night viewing uses a black-and-white image. Up to 8x digital zoom enlarges the displayed image; it is not 8x optical magnification.
The supplier specifies viewing at approximately 300–400 m in complete darkness and from about 3 m in low light. These are supplier viewing-distance figures, not guaranteed identification distances. Weather, IR setting, target size and contrast influence the result.
Photo and video recording
The supplier lists photo output settings of 36 MP, 12 MP, 8 MP, 5 MP, 3 MP, 2 MP, 1 MP and 360P (night enhancement). Its video table lists 4K, FHD, HD and 360P (night enhancement). These are stated output settings; native sensor resolution and independently measured image detail are not established by these figures.
Controls and mounting
- Capture / OK: confirm a menu selection or take a photo or video
- MODE: switch operating mode; MENU: open settings
- IR minus and plus: adjust infrared brightness, digital zoom or menu selection as appropriate to the active mode
- Power button: switch the device on or off; focus ring: adjust sharpness
The mounting illustration shows the headband, connector, fastener and device assembly. The housing also has a tripod socket. A helmet and tripod are not included. The illustrated mounting system is for observation; this product description makes no claim about protective-helmet certification.
Screen and eyecup
The viewing assembly combines a TFT screen and a silicone eyecup. The supplier lists a display resolution of 640 × 480. Its drawings give inconsistent physical screen sizes, so no physical diagonal is promised here. The eyepiece enlargement shown in its material describes the apparent viewing effect, not a large physical monitor.
